It holds roughly 52 historic commercial and civic buildings, built mostly of brick and stone between the 1880s and the 1930s. These structures tell the story of the town’s growth as a railway shipping hub for cotton, cattle, and onions. Each building reflects a period when Farmersville served as a key point along the rail line, moving goods and people across the region. That history is still visible in the architecture you see today.

Freedom Plaza

Freedom Plaza stands as one of the most meaningful stops in downtown Farmersville. The plaza features a dedicated Veterans Memorial that honors those who served.
It also holds a memorial to Audie Murphy, the most decorated American veteran of World War II and a native son of the Farmersville area. The Onion Shed

The historic Onion Shed points back to one of the crops that helped build Farmersville. During the town’s years as a shipping hub, onions moved through here along with cotton and cattle, feeding markets well beyond Collin County.
The Onion Shed stands as a reminder of that agricultural past and the role farming played in the local economy. It remains a favorite spot for visitors who want to see a piece of the town’s working history up close.

When the holidays arrive, downtown Farmersville turns into one of my favorite places to be. A magnificent Christmas tree stands tall in the heart of the district, bright and full, giving the whole town a place to gather. Just a short walk away, the Freedom Plaza pavilion is laced with lights that come alive after dark.

Look around and you’ll notice nearly every historic building dressed in its holiday best. These century-old brick storefronts wear the season well, and the old architecture only makes the lights feel more special.
Put it all together and the entire downtown glows with a warm, inviting light. It’s the kind of scene that makes you want to slow down, linger a little longer, and enjoy the moment.
